1. Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the use of text, data, ideas, figures, or findings from another source without proper acknowledgement. Self-plagiarism refers to the reuse of an author’s own previously published content without appropriate citation, disclosure, or justification. Both practices are considered serious violations of ethical publishing standards.
To maintain the originality and integrity of published work, BKK uses plagiarism detection tools to screen all submitted manuscripts. This process is intended to identify text recycling, improper citation, unattributed borrowing, and duplication before publication.
Similarity Requirements
- The plagiarism or similarity score of the manuscript must be below 20%.
- Manuscripts exceeding this threshold may be rejected or returned to the authors for revision and clarification.
Academic Integrity Resources
Authors who are uncertain about how to avoid plagiarism and self-plagiarism are encouraged to consult academic integrity guidance from reputable institutions and organizations, such as:
- Plagiarism.org
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
- Stanford University
- University of Toronto
- Université Paris-Saclay
2. Duplicate (Redundant) Publications
Duplicate or redundant publication occurs when an author submits or publishes substantially the same work in more than one venue without proper cross-referencing, disclosure, or editorial permission. This includes substantial overlap in data, assumptions, interpretation, discussion, or conclusions.
If an article has previously appeared in another language, full disclosure of the original publication must be provided at the time of submission. Likewise, if part of the work has appeared as an abstract in conference proceedings, the prior publication must be fully cited and transparently disclosed to the editorial office.
When previously published material is identified without proper acknowledgement or permission, the Editor-in-Chief will contact the author for clarification. BKK follows the relevant guidance issued by COPE in handling suspected plagiarism, redundant publication, and related publication ethics concerns, including cases identified after publication.
3. Preprint Policy
Authors submitting to BKK may deposit their Author’s Original Manuscript (AOM) in a non-commercial preprint server, such as arXiv, PeerJ Preprints, or HAL, at any time before acceptance, provided that the preprint platform allows authors to retain full copyright and reuse rights.
A citation and link to the original preprint version should be included in the manuscript at the time of submission or during the review process. This ensures transparency in the editorial assessment and scholarly record.
Once an article is officially published in BKK, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record with a link to the final published version so that readers can access, cite, and refer to the peer-reviewed article. However, BKK does not consider manuscripts that have already been formally published or are under active review elsewhere.
Editorial Commitment to Integrity
Through this policy, BKK affirms its commitment to originality, transparency, responsible authorship, and ethical publication practices in order to protect the credibility of scholarly communication and the integrity of clinical research.
